The biggest change however, lies under the bonnet. The CL63 AMG gets a new 5.5-litre bi-turbo direct injection V8 engine that replaces the old naturally-aspirated 6.2-litre V8. Mated to AMG's Speedshift 7-speed automatic transmission, the unit produces 536bhp and 800Nm of torque. This enables the car to go from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
When the optional AMG Performance Pack is added, power output is further increased to 563bhp and 900Nm of torque. This drops the 0-100km/h sprint time to 4.3 seconds, and the electronically-limited top speed is raised to 300km/h. The upgraded CL63 AMG also gets three new systems, Direct-Steer, Torque Vectoring Brake and crosswind stabilization, as standard, which helps to improve handling and safety.
The CL65 AMG will continue to be powered by the same 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12, but Mercedes-Benz has tweaked the unit to churn out an extra 17bhp, bringing power up to 621bhp. Torque remains at 1000Nm, and with a five-speed automatic gearbox, the CL65 AMG can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 300km/h.
