MG has marked its 100th anniversary at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the unveiling of the all-new HS.
The new SUV has grown 45mm longer and 14mm wider (to new totals of 1,890mm and 4,655mm, although plug-in models measure in at a total of 1,670mm long), while the new car's overall height has been reduced by 30mm compared to the outgoing model.
The new MG HS is 45mm longer and 14mm wider than before, and has its overall height reduced by 30mm, so its profile is now sleeker than before
Up front, the MG HS gets a new grille alongside new and slimmer head lights, the latter now connected via a black panel to giver the car added visual width. This touch is mirrored at the rear of the car, where the taillights are in turn linked by a central motif.
The new MG HS is now being offered with both a petrol-only and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The latter makes use of a 1.5-litre engine paired with a 207bhp electric motor, allowing it to complete the century sprint in 6.8 seconds. This electric motor draws power from a 24.7kWh battery which also allows the MG HS to deliver an electric-only driving range of 120km.
Those looking for petrol-only power, meanwhile, will be able to get the SUV with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine that delivers a total of 168bhp and 275Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with either a six-speed manual transmission as standard, although a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is also available. With this engine, the MG HS will hit 100km/h from a standstill in 9.4 seconds.
In its cabin, the MG HS sports two 12.3-inch displays, with the central infotainment system offering smartphone connectivity via both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car also gets a redesigned steering wheel, and a new shuttle-style gear shifter.
The high specification 'Trophy' trim models of the SUV will also come with a 360-degree surround view camera and wireless smartphone charging as standard, alongside an electric six-way adjustable driver's seat, a power tailgate, and an eight-speaker audio system. At the rear, the MG HS also now offers a total of 507 litres of storage space, 44 litres more than the outgoing model.
First deliveries of the new MG HS are expected to start in the U.K. by late July 2024, while the plug-in hybrid models are due in showrooms in the U.K. by the end of September.
