MG Motor U.K. has confirmed the first specifications for a new MG 4 Xpower, a performance-oriented version of the MG 4 all-electric hatch we tested in March of 2023.
The MG 4 Xpower is set to put a total of 429bhp and 600Nm of torque to the road, making it the most powerful production car from MG yet. This power will allow the electric hatchback to reach 100km/h from a standstill in 3.8 seconds. For some comparison, this sprint time matches that of the 394bhp Audi RS3 Sportback we drove in May 2022.
To control all this power, the MG 4 Xpower will also come with a new Dynamic Cornering Control System that utilises a locking electronic differential, as well as an Intelligent Motor Control system that will control power delivery between all four wheels. These will maximise available traction and maintain vehicle composure in a wide range of driving conditions.
The car will also get recalibrated springs and dampers, which are 25% stiffer than those on the regular MG 4, alongside stiffer anti-roll bars. A sharper steering system is also said to feature on the MG 4 X Power.
MG states that the MG 4 Xpower has been designed to deliver a more subtle look compared to other performance-oriented hatchbacks. The car, however, does get orange brake callipers, a black roof, and new 18-inch alloy wheels. It will also be offered with a new Racing Green exterior colour.
MG has also announced that it will reveal a new, high-performance MG at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Called the MG EX4, the new car is said to sport a body that reimagines the Metro 6R4 rally legend of the 1980s, while utilising the electric drivetrain of the MG 4 Xpower. The MG EX4 is set to feature a distinctive livery designed especially for Goodwood while celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Metro 6R4.
