A higher number of parking lots will be reserved in HDB estates for the purpose of car sharing, announced Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State for Transport, in Parliament yesterday.
She went on to affirm the Government will render more support to car sharing schemes in order for more households to have car sharing as an option for their mobility needs. According to The Straits Times, Mrs. Teo believes the concept of car sharing is relevant to Singapore as the concept emphasises more on car accessibility over car ownership. She added every car added to a well-organised car sharing scheme replaces 15 private vehicles.
In addition, a bicycle sharing scheme will also be piloted in the Jurong Lake District and Marina Bay by next year and could be expended to other towns with completed cycling path networks such as Tampines and Sembawang.
