Morgan has revealed a new three-wheeled Super 3.
Said to be Morgan's first first clean-sheet design since the Aero 8, the new Super 3 now houses its automotive-derived engine back from the centre line of its front wheels.
The cooling packs along the side of the Super 3 can be had with accessory rails to house additional luggage space And whereas the outgoing 3 Wheeler took inspiration from the aircraft design of the 1920s, the new Super 3 takes its inspiration from the jet age.
The new car thus sports a body that has been streamlined. At the front, the view of the car is no longer dominated by the V-twin engine, although it does retain the iconic two round head lights and horseshoe front grille.
Bracing the engine are structural aluminium castings finished in either silver or black that also double as air ducts for the cooling packs. Those cooling pack are visible head on, and house radiators for the car but also sport accessory rails which run alongside the car, allowing for numerous luggage mounting options via panniers and exo racks.
While the front end embodies mechanical honesty, the tail contrasts this with elegant, streamlined simplicity, slowing tapering out while hiding a single tailpipe with a cut-out design.
A choice of vinyl, water-resistant leather, saddle leather, or a technical fabric are offered for the seats of the Morgan Super 3 The Morgan Super 3 gets 20-inch tyres designed specially by Avon, while at the rear, an all-season tyre was selected to provide optimum slip angle.
Powering the Morgan Super 3 is a Ford-derived 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that develops 118bhp and 149Nm of torque. This engine is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox from the Mazda MX-5. Morgan additionally states that extensive development as gone into tuning the engine's acoustic content and enhancing its natural and distinctive three-cylinder character.
In the cabin, the Morgan Super 3 is offered with a choice of seat materials including vinyl, water-resistant leather and a saddle leather with enhanced durability. A technical fabric is also offered, which combines a high level of water resistance, UV resistance and ease of maintenance, as an appealing alternative to leather.
There's now also a reach and rake-adjustable steering wheel and a quick-release adjustable pedal box for increased comfort, and a heated footwell for those adventures out into remote locations.
A universal fixing - the same as the ones mounted to the vehicle sideblades - is mounted under the dashboard and allows for a cup holder or Quad Lock phone mount to be fitted. A discreet lockable underseat compartment also allows more valuable items to be stored.
