New Skoda Superb now more spacious than before

Skoda has revealed its new, larger and improved Superb.
Up front, the car gets a new octagonal grille, flanked at either end by optional second-generation LED Matrix head lights (standard for the Laurin and Klement trim). These house two BiLED modules (containing a total of 36 matrix segments) each, as well as a static, crystal-like cornering light in between. These segments ensure that oncoming traffic is now dazzled when using the high beam, and the entire head light assembly is said to deliver 40% more light than the first generation.
At the rear, the taillights of the Superb have also been redesigned. Now more slender than before, these are available with dynamic turn signals and an animated coming/leaving home function. These new taillights also sit at either end of the car's tailgate lettering, which now comes in a unique Dark Chrome finish.
More important for this new Superb however, is the fact that it is now larger than before. The liftback has grown a total of 43mm in length and 12mm taller than the model it replaces, while the estate is now 40mm longer and 5mm taller than before. This growth has translated into increased head room for both front and rear passengers, as well as increased luggage space, which now totals 645 litres in the liftback and 690 litres in the estate.
Those seated within the new Skoda Superb, however, are more likely to first notice the fact that a new, free-standing infotainment display now features here. This screen is available in two sizes, with the first 10-inch system offering gesture and voice control, and the second larger system measuring in at 13-inches.
The driver will also note that the Superb now places its gear selector on the steering column. This has freed up space for a new tidier centre console. But for those that need more storage space still, a new Jumbo Box in the centre armrest is now available, offering a total of 5.5 litres of space.
The Skoda Superb has also gained the firm's Smart Dials that we saw on the new Skoda Kodiaq which will allow users to quickly make adjustments to cabin the climate control, seat heating and seat ventilation, and media volume settings, amongst others.
Also new here is a Phone Box that offers fast inductive charging at 15W while cooling down your smartphone. The Skoda Superb is also available with a 14-speaker (including two surround speakers) Canton Sound System. All textiles in this Skoda Superb are also made of 100% recycled materials.
The Skoda Superb liftback offers a total of 645 litres of boot space, while the Skoda Superb Estate offers 690 litres of space at its rear
Petrol-only options for the Skoda Superb include a 148bhp 1.5-litre engine equipped with mild hybrid technology. Two 2.0-litre options will also be offered, the first offering 201bhp and the second delivering a total of 261bhp. All these engines will come paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Those who opt for the Skoda Superb Estate will also be able to get their car with a 201bhp plug-in hybrid drivetrain that utilises a 1.5-litre engine. The drivetrain comes with a six-speed gearbox as well as a 25.7kWh battery that allows the Skoda Superb Estate to deliver an electric-only range of more than 100km. This battery can be charged at 11kW via an alternating current charger, and 50kW via a direct current source.
Skoda states that more than 1,600,000 Superb models have been produced worldwide to date.
