After getting listed on the Singapore stock exchange in 2022, the actual vehicles from Chinese manufacturer Nio are now set to make their way onto our sunny island.
Wearnes Automotive has announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with the firm to become the exclusive distributor of its vehicles in Singapore.
Both Wearnes and Nio are currently assessing the implementation of Nio's battery-swap technology and Nio House concept here in Singapore
The Chinese manufacturer is described as an established premium electric vehicle brand, and has set itself apart thanks to its expansion in Europe, as well as with its efforts to expand battery-swapping technology.
Wearnes states that it plans to bring into Singapore the Firefly (Nio's first right-hand drive model), making our island the first market in Southeast Asia to receive the model. While the firm is best known for its larger tech-heavy cars, such as its flagship ET9 sedan, there is no indication yet on when (or if) these will eventually be offered too.
Retail operations are currently scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. Both Wearnes and Nio state that they will additionally assess the implementation of Nio's battery-swap technology and its Nio House concept (which sees Nio showrooms serving as second 'homes' for social gatherings, events, and lifestyle experiences) here to further enrich the local ownership experience.
On the all-electric front, Wearnes was appointed the official distributor of the Polestar brand in 2021, and saw the marque opening its first showroom here in 2022. The multi-brand automotive distributor also represents a host of premium and luxury brands here including Volvo, Bentley, and Lotus, amongst others.
