The iOn, which is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, is able to travel up to 150km on a single charge, which is 10km shorter than the Mitsubishi, but still impressive. The car is expected to appeal to urban dwellers in cities where the majority of daily journeys are less than 60km.
To charge the batteries, the car can be hooked up to a standard 220V household outlet in which will recharge the car in less than six hours. For faster recharging, there is a three-phase 380V rapid charger available that can replenish the battery to 50% capacity in fifteen minutes and 80% capacity in thirty minutes.
Peugeot has tweaked the iOn's styling a little to differentiate it from its Mitsubishi i-MiEV cousin, with a unique Peugeot logo in pearlescent white and chrome trim dominating the front. Other additions include alloy wheels, fog lamps, and automatic headlights, while the interior has also been equipment such as remote control central locking, air conditioning, electric windows, and an MP3/CD audio system with Bluetooth/USB connectivity.
Options available for the iOn include a cold weather package which comes with a heated driver seat and electric mirror de-icing feature, a navigation system, and the choice of having the iOn specified as a commercial vehicle which removes the rear seats for more cargo room. The iOn will be available through a five-year lease program, which includes the vehicle, the battery pack, service and maintenance, and a five year 50,000 km warranty.
