Polestar has revealed its new Polestar 4, an all-electric SUV coupe.
Measuring 4,839mm long, 2,139mm wide and 1,544mm tall, the Polestar 4 is larger than the Polestar 2 but smaller than the Polestar 3.
The Polestar 4 makes do without a rear window, with a roof-mounted camera offering the needed rearward visibility But it will stand ahead of the rest of the lineup when it comes to performance. Polestar states that the Polestar 4 will come with a maximum output of 537bhp and peak torque of 686Nm in its Long Range Dual Motor variant, allowing a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds.
For comparison, the recently revealed Polestar 2 BST edition 230 has a total output of 469bhp and 680Nm of torque, allowing it to complete the same sprint in 4.4 seconds.
The Long Range variants of the Polestar 4 will come with a 102kWh battery, which on the Long Range Dual Motor variant, facilitates a targeted range of up to 563km. All variants will support 200kW charging via a direct current source, and can charge at up to 22kW via an alternating current charger.
The 15.4-inch landscape-oriented infotainment system comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play all built-in And the Polestar 4 has the design to match this new performance.
Inspiration for the design is said to have been taken from the Polestar Precept concept car, so the Polestar 4 features, for example, dual blade head lights at the front. Also inspired by the concept car is the decision to eliminate the rear window, to offer rear occupants a new immersive driving experience.
Taking the place of a rear-view mirror here instead is a high-definition screen that will display a feed from a roof-mounted rear camera, enabling a wider field of view than what is available in other cars.
Elsewhere in the cabin of the Polestar 4, materials including a tailored knit textile which consists of 100% recycled PET plastic, as well as bio-attributed MicroTech vinyl and animal welfare-secured Nappa leather is utilised.
The Polestar 4 will also get a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented infotainment system, here powered by Android Automotive OS and complete with built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play.
This screen will be matched by a 10.2-inch driver display and a head-up display with a 14.7-inch projection area, which will relay all the necessary driving information.
As with all other Polestar cars, the Polestar 4 will receive regular over-the-air updates to allow for new features and improvements to be received without the need to send the vehicle to a service centre.
A Harman Kardon audio system is additionally available as an option for the Polestar 4. This system comes with 12 speakers and a 1,400W channel-hybrid amplifier.
The Polestar 4 will first launch in China, with production planned to begin in Hangzhou Bay, come November 2023. The state-of-the-art Geely-owned production facility operates on 100% renewable electricity. A full-scale launch for markets including Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, is planned for early 2024.
