Police arrest 18 men for drink driving in a pre-dawn operation

The Traffic Police have arrested 18 motorists, aged between 29 and 48, for drink driving in an islandwide pre-dawn operation on Tuesday.
A statement from the authority said that road blocks were set up at various parts of Singapore, and a total of 76 drivers were stopped for the breathalyser test.
Of the 18 men arrested, one driver was tested with 110 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath - more than triple the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
If found guilty, motorists will be banned from roads for at least a year. Their driver's license will also be revoked, and will be required to retake and pass the theory and practical tests before they are allowed to drive again.
First time offenders can also be fined up to $5,000, while repeat offender may be fined up to $30,000 and serve a mandatory jail term of up to three years. Offenders may also be caned up to six strokes if they cause death or serious injury.
