The new 911 features an aluminum-steel body that offers significantly increased rigidity as well as reducing up to 45kg in weight. Thanks to improved aerodynamics and the wider extending rear spoiler, the new Carrera has reduced lift without increasing its drag coefficient.
Inside, the new 911 has been completely revamped, with the interior of the car taking cues from the Carrera GT supercar, as well as classic 911 elements like the five round instruments and the ignition key located on the left of the steering wheel, while the rising centre console is adapted from the Panamera sports sedan.
Porsche will offer two versions of the 991-series 911 at launch, the base Carrera and the Carrera S. Both are available with either a new 7-speed manual gearbox or the dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission. The Carrera features a new version of Porsche’s flat-six engine, with the 3.4-litre unit producing 350bhp. Despite the reduction in engine capacity, the new 911 Carrera accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds when fitted with the PDK transmission, and 4.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono package. The Carrera S meanwhile, has a 3.8-litre engine that churns out 400bhp, and allows the car to go from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds with the PDK transmission and 4.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package.
Porsche has also enhanced the efficiency of the new 911, with the inclusion of features such as an auto stop/start system, better thermal management, electrical system recuperation, a new electro-mechanical steering wheel and the new, 7-speed gearboxes. Along with the wider front tracks and the longer wheelbase, the 991 also gets a new rear axle and, for the first time in the Carrera S, Porsche’s Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilization system as an option.

The ninth generation of Porsche’s classic sports car is codenamed the 991, and the car retains the familiar silhouette of its predecessors the 997, in a shape that has evolved through the model’s 48 year history. Although the external dimensions of the 991 are similar to the 997, the new 911 has new bodywork, a 100mm longer wheelbase and reduced height which, combined with the wider front track, the repositioned mirrors and the new headlights, gives the car a more dynamic look while still retaining the signature 911 shape.
