Power fault on Downtown Line causes service disruption
07 Mar 2014|2,477 views
Train service on the Downtown Line was disrupted for around 30 minutes on Friday morning due to a power fault. Services in both directions at all six stations of the 4.3km line were affected.
Rail operator SBS Transit said in a statement that the disruption, which occurred at around 9:35am, was caused by a power fault at the Operations Control Centre (OCC). The control centre was not able to control and track train operations. As such, all trains were held at the stations' platforms as a safety precaution.
It was estimated that 1,700 commuters were affected by the delay. The transport operator activated 14 shuttle buses and more than 90 staff to help commuters during the service breakdown.
Full service resumed at around 10:10am after engineers from SBS Transit and Land Transport Authority (LTA) rectified the problem. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
