After normal operations were hindered on the Bukit Panjang LRT Line yesterday morning, the Circle Line (CCL) - another SMRT run rail line - suffered service delays yesterday evening. The second setback in a day, occured after a power trip caused communication systems to fail, right before the peak travel period.
Services were delayed by 15 minutes after the technical glitch was fixed with recovery of the integrated supervisory control system, The Straits Times reported.
Through a Facebook post, train operator SMRT revealed, a power trip between 5:48pm and 6:04pm caused signalling systems to fail - resulting in a partial disruption of the CCL. Due to the power failure, the firm's communication network - including the Public Announcement system - failed as well, resulting in a lack of announcements.
The problem was rectified and normal operations resumed at 6:10pm.
On the same post, SMRT also added it will run full checks on all systems after operation hours yesterday night and will review the design of the power supply system with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to make it more robust in a bid to prevent similar incidents in the future.
