DENZA, BYD's premium brand, has introduced the B5, its second model in Singapore. Prices currently start from $368,888 with COE, but through an early-bird promotion, buyers can avail of a $20,000 discount.
Unveiled yesterday evening at METT Singapore, the B5 is a luxury SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It promises buyers advanced technology, on-board refinement, and efficiency. With a body-on-frame construction, it has the foundation of a proper off-roader, too.
Its styling reflects this purpose. The B5 is square, chunky and rugged. While not the largest SUV on the roads, its dimensions are nevertheless imposing. The B5 is 4,888mm long, 1,970mm wide, stands 1,920mm tall, and has a wheelbase length of 2,800mm.
Facing the driver are a 12.3-inch LCD 3D instrument cluster, and a 15.6-inch ultra-high-definition infotainment screen. A 50-inch heads-up display is also standard.
Also part of the standard kit are a 16-speaker Devialet audio system, 50-watt wireless phone chargers, a built-in fridge, and multi-colour ambient lighting. The front seats offer ventilation/heating and massage functions, too.
In terms of safety, the B5's long list of features includes Forward Traffic Crossing Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Intelligent Cruise Control. The vehicle also comes with Ultrasonic Radar, and High-Precision Millimetre Wave Radar.
The B5 is currently the quickest and most powerful DENZA model available here. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine and two electric motors, which draw power from a 31.8kWh Blade battery.
Total system outputs are 425kW (570bhp) and 760Nm of torque. With all-wheel drive, the 2.94-tonne B5 does the century sprint in 4.8 seconds. Thanks to the plug-in hybrid system, DENZA claims an average fuel consumption of 9.2km/L.
The B5 is also capable of pure electric performance, with the Blade battery allowing a zero-tailpipe emissions range of up to 90km. It can be charged at a maximum rate of 11kW (AC) and 100kW (DC).
To cope with various driving and terrain conditions, there are no fewer than 16 drive modes.
Apart from the usual 'Comfort', 'Eco', and 'Sport' modes, there are seven terrain settings to help tackle various surfaces. In addition, there are also 'Race', 'Creep', and 'Compass Turn' modes. The latter effectively lets the driver perform a tank turn or turn on the spot, which could come in handy when the B5 is in a tight spot.
Alongside the B5's launch, DENZA also unveiled its partnership with METT Singapore that's aimed at offering DENZA owners exclusive lifestyle privileges. These include preferential staycation rates, curated dining experiences, and dedicated parking spaces.
