Production begins of Volkswagen Multivan in Hannover, Germany
07 Oct 2021|944 views
Volkswagen has begun series production of the Multivan at its modernised production facility in Hannover.
The new facility has been digitalised so the degree of automation is around 93%, as compared to the 77% of the assembly for the T6.1. The new digitalisation also allows machine supervisors at the Hannover plant to look after multiple stages in parallel from one control stand while being in constant contact with the machines via smart watch digital devices. If any parts are needed or servicing is due, this gets reported well in advance, thus avoiding any downtime.
An automated logistics system is also utilised for efficiency in the assembly process, with self-driving carrier vehicles bring parts directly from the stores to the assembly lines. In the future, this degree of computerised logistics will allow the T6.1, Multivan, ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo to all be made on just two main lines.
Volkswagen states that preparations are already underway for the start of production of the ID.Buzz at the plant, starting next year.
