After a long absence, the Proton brand is slated to make a re-entry onto our shores - albeit not in the form you're likely to have remembered it for, and with a new partner representing it here too.
Proton e.MAS - a division of the Malaysian carmaker specialising in electric vehicles (EVs) - has revealed that it will be appointing VINCAR Group as its official distributor in Singapore.
This agreement between both parties was announced at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur on 16 December 2024 (Monday). VINCAR will kickstart the launch of Proton e.MAS with the Proton e.MAS 7, slated for launch in early 2025, and the brand's first model to be launched in Singapore.
Measuring more than 4.6 metres long and with a wheelbase of more than 2.7 metres, the e.MAS 7 is an electric crossover that looks set to do battle against the likes of the BYD Atto 3. Additionally, Proton e.MAS' official website currently lists two variants of the car, with the longer-range one powered by a 60.2kWh battery that can provide a WLTP-rated range of 410km.
VINCAR will establish Proton e.MAS' flagship showroom at the Leng Kee automotive belt, where customers can look forward to an expanded product lineup, with details on future models and their launch timelines to be announced in due course.
VINCAR will also handle Proton e.MAS' after-sales services, including warranty coverage. The dealer currently stewards the Aion brand as VINCAR EV, which already has the Aion Y Plus and the Aion ES on sale in Singapore, and is gearing up for the arrival of the Aion V in the near future.
