GAC Aion showcased its new, second-generation Aion V at the recent The Car Expo in Singapore, which ran from 5 October 2024 to 6 October 2024.
Utilising Aion's exclusive All-Electric Platform (AEP) 3.0, it features interesting upgrades from its first-generation predecessor, released back in 2020. It is a little larger, measuring 4,605mm long with a 2,775mm wheelbase, and also comes with an ingenious three-tier trunk storage system in the back.
Additionally, the new car comes with a new liquid-cooled electric powertrain offering a higher efficiency and a longer range as compared to previous Aion models. It is said to be able to achieve a range of up to 750km and an energy consumption rate of 7.7km/kWh.
Two motor options are currently available internationally, either delivering 150kW or 165kW of peak power, with a maximum torque of 240Nm for both variants. Three battery pack capacities are also available to choose from, with the 62kWh, 75kWh, and 90kWh battery packs having a maximum range of 520km, 650km, and 750km respectively.
It is also said to introduce Aion's 400V+3C fast-charging technology, compatible with almost all charging infrastructures worldwide, and providing up to 370km on a 15 minute charge.
Inspiration for the exterior design stemmed from the Tyrannosaurus Rex; its headlights were inspired by dragon claws, with a trapezoidal-shaped front bumper and black décor on both sides conveying a rugged side.
In the interior, its smart cockpit is said to feature the ADiGO PILOT intelligent driving system, supported by a self-evolving ADiGO SENSE AI model and the latest NVIDIA Orin-X chip, which allows the driver a plethora of non-driving activity options.
Compared to the Aion Y Plus - Aion's first electric crossover in Singapore - the Aion V offers higher efficiency and longer range. Sgcarmart understands from the authorised dealer for Aion in Singapore, VINCAR EV, that the car is likely to be offered with a Cat A friendly powertrain when it eventually goes on sale. The Aion V is also estimated to slot in above the Y Plus in terms of pricing.
