Recap: Yangwang U9 showcased at Singapore Motor Show

Motor shows are arguably at their best when someone pulls an out-of-this-world car out that can stop everyone in their tracks - and over the 2025 Singapore Motor Show weekend, that's exactly what BYD did.
Making a special appearance at Suntec City Convention Centre was the Yangwang U9 - an hypercar built by BYD's luxury sub-brand that's currently offered only in left-hand drive.
Let's get the performance figures out of the way first: Built atop of BYD's e4 Platform, the U9 doesn't just get two, but rather, a whopping total of four motors - one on each wheel - that produce a ludicrous output of 1,287bhp and 1,680Nm of torque. Its acceleration is thus unsurprisingly explosive, crushing the century sprint in just 2.36 seconds.
But pure numbers aside, the quad-motor setup on the U9 also promises incredible handling, since the car can control the torque sent to each wheel independently. Amidst all of its busy, aerodynamic body work, BYD also states that that the car comes with a super carbon-fibre cabin, which not only boosts its body rigidity but enhances the car's safety too.
And naturally, powering all this is BYD's proprietary Blade Battery, which - the brand states - has been crafted for exceptional energy efficiency and rapid charging.
Those who visited the Motor Show at the right time, however, should know that the U9's idea of 'performance' isn't just limited to how it shreds up tarmac.
Thanks to its DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, BYD states that the car is capable of "dynamic control like never before", and as we bore witness to, can bounce around and rotate on the spot like a tank - with a dazzling light show from its bracket head light clusters to boot. (A brief vertical leap into the air is also possible, although Sgcarmart didn't catch this at the Show.)
If you're keen on the more specific technical details, BYD also shares that with its DiSus-X system, the car boasts adjustable suspension travel of up to 75mm, and single-axis lifting speeds of 500mm per second.
The showcase of the Yangwang U9 came alongside the official Singapore Motor Show debut of DENZA, which launched the D9 luxury MPV on our shores in late 2024. Altogether, the DENZA, BYD and Yangwang booths also made BYD the largest exhibitor at the Show last weekend.
