Slight increase in Cat A COE prices as Cat B and E fall

In the second COE bidding exercise for August, COE premiums for Cat A rose, while Cat B and E fell.
Premiums for Cat B, larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, went down by $1,403 (2.4 percent) and ended at $56,500.
In Cat E, the open category, prices also fell by $1,245 (2.1 percent), with premiums closing at $56,956.
An increase in Cat A premiums is likely the result of prospective buyers flocking to showrooms after the last bidding exercise saw a drop in COE for lower capacity cars. That, and the recent slew of affordable mid-sized cars being launched here, like the new tenth generation Honda Civic and the Kia Cerato Forte K3, could be the reason for the surge in demand for Cat A COEs.
