SMRT to install 'traffic light' systems at 10 more train stations

Train operator SMRT will install a 'traffic light' system at ten more stations by first half of next year. Resembling traffic lights on the road, the new system will inform commuters how crowded the platform is as they are walking into a train station.
A green light indicates that the platform is clear, and passengers can board the next train. An amber light signals that there is a possible wait for two trains, and a red light shows that the platform is crowded, and a prolonged wait is expected.
A flashing red light, on the other hand, indicates that train services have been delayed or disrupted.
SMRT has yet to reveal which 10 stations will be installed with the new system.
A trial of the system was conducted at Ang Mo Kio station last December, and at Tanjong Pagar station in January. In a survey done on 1,000 commuters, SMRT said that 80 percent of them were aware of the new system and commented that it should be introduced at more stations.
