Commuters heading towards HarbourFront via the Circle Line (CCL) were held up on Friday morning due to a stalled train between Tai Seng and Bartley stations. SMRT, operator of the affected line, revealed the incident occurred at 8:05am, and the stalled train was later driven to Bartley where passengers alighted.
According to The Straits Times, the service delay caused massive crowds at the platforms of at least two MRT stations - Serangoon and Bishan - with commuters posting pictures on social media showing lines of more than 20 people at the stations.
Mr. Patrick Nathan, SMRT's Vice President of Corporate Communications and Information, revealed full services along CCL resumed at around 8:14am, but a knock-on effect led to delays for subsequent trains. Normal headway between trains was restored an hour later.
"Initial findings point to a signal fault aboard the train. Our engineers are attending to the situation," said Mr. Nathan in a statement and went on to apologise to commuters for the inconvenience experienced today morning.
