Suzuki Motor Corporation has achieved an accumulated 25 million units of Japanese domestic mini vehicles sold as of 30 April 2021. These are also known as Kei cars.
Since the launch of the Suzulight in 1955, the first ever mass-production mini vehicle in Japan, Suzuki has been producing distinctive products that surprise and delight, such as the Jimny in 1970, the Alto in 1979, and the WagonR in 1993. In recent years, Suzuki launched the iconic Hustler in 2014. All told, Suzuki broke this unprecedented record in 65 years and seven months. In comparison, the original Volkswagen Beetle sold 21.5 million units during its entire production run from 1938 to 2003.
Mini vehicles are favoured by customers for their fuel efficient and easy-to-drive characteristics. They are used for everyday duties such as commuting, school trips and shopping, and are a useful commercial vehicle for the transportation of people and goods.
In rural areas where public transportation is infrequent, mini vehicles have replaced buses and trains, serving a vital transport role in local communities.
