The Boss is back: Ford's Mustang Boss 302 rides again

Over the years, Ford has managed to make a mockery out of several legendary Mustang models. The tarmac shredding Mach series was reduced to a radio upgrade package called the Mach 460. The Bullet edition, meant to commemorate Steve McQueen's Mustang movie, was just a set of wheels, and a sticker.
So, the legendary Boss 302 had to be right. It had to look like a complete hooligan. And, it had to have the power to back up the looks.
As the Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak put it; "Boss is a hallowed word around here, and we couldn't put that name on a new Mustang until we were sure everything was in place to make this car a worthy successor. We were either going to do it right or not do it at all - no one on the team was going to let Boss become a sticker and wheel package."
In other words, the new Boss 302 had to eat Hybrids for breakfast.
If you drive a Prius, you may want to look away now™because it's time to introduce the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302!
This stripe-laiden monster is powered by a special version of Ford's new 5-litre engine. With its special intake, and aggressive cam setup, the Boss 302 has a massive 440 bhp, and 380 lb'ft of torque.
Other special equipment includes a 3:73 limited-slip diff, with carbon fibre plates, an up-rated clutch with a unique short-throw shifter, an adjustable suspension, and bigger brakes.
On the inside, over 11lbs of sound deadening material was removed. But in its place, you do get a unique dark metallic instrument panel, gauge cluster and door panel trim.
There's also a bunch of options which include an Alcantara-covered steering wheel and Recaro high performance seats.
Of course, loud colours with ridiculous names are a must-have for any muscle car. And the new Boss 302 Mustang doesn't disappoint. Available colours include; Competition Orange, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat Metallic and Race Red.
Expect several special editions of™the new special edition Mustang to arrive shortly.
