Sustainability, power, luxury, and the ability to ferry seven all meet in the new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
The firm's flagship SUV from its all-electric EQ range bears a visual resemblance to the EQS Sedan launched late 2021. Up front, the wide black panel has been retained, taking the place of what otherwise would be a radiator grille.
Mercedes' MBUX Hyperscreen on the EQS SUV merges two 12.3-inch screens and a central 17.7-inch display into one visually unified unit The daytime running light signature from the head lights that flank this black panel however, has been altered from a three-dot pattern in the EQS Sedan into one that now comprises three triangles in the EQS SUV.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV also retains some of the dynamic silhouette of the EQS Sedan despite its SUV body shape, thanks to a steeply raked A-pillar and a black roof contour that aids in reducing visual mass at the rear when the car is viewed in profile.
From here, you'll also notice that the car sports flush door handles, and thin, black wheel arches and side sill panels. And those running boards you see in the pictures will also be available as an option.
For a sense of scale, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV measures 5,125mm long, 1,958mm wide, and 1,718mm tall, putting in close to the EQS Sedan, except of course, for the fact that it is 200mm taller.
All the size allows the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV to ferry up to seven passengers, although it will be offered as a five-seater as well.
A sliding second row means that knee room for those seated here will range from 830mm to 960mm. Luggage space meanwhile, is a claimed 195 litres with all seats in place, although this expands to 800 litres with the third row folded down, and 2,020 litres with even the second row tucked away.
And in front of all passengers rests the available MBUX hyperscreen. In the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, this screen combines the 12.3-inch driver's display, 17.7-inch central display, and a 12.3-inch into one visual unit.
And underneath all this lies a four-link design at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear, supported by air suspension with continuously adjustable damping as standard on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
Rear-wheel steering also comes as standard, offering up to 4.5 degrees, and optionally with up to 10 degrees of steering angle.
Three powertrain options for the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV are being offered at launch. The first, badged as the EQS450+, will come with 355bhp and 568Nm of torque, all sent to the rear wheels.
An additional EQS450 4Matic is also being offered, which will also deliver 355bhp but comes with 800Nm of torque, along with all-wheel drive. Finally, the EQS580 4Matic will offer a total of 536bhp alongside 858Nm of torque, and will also put power onto the road via all four wheels.
The WLTP range for the all-wheel drive models above reach a maximum of 613km, while the EQS450+ will offer a maximum range of 660km.
All variants here will charge at a maximum of 11kW via an alternating current source, although 22kW charging is available as an option. Maximum charging speed via a direct current source meanwhile, is 200kW.
