Kia Singapore unveiled the much-anticipated EV6 to the local automotive media on the morning of 23 November, at the Changi Experience Studio in Jewel Changi Airport. The unique location selected for the event allowed everyone to appreciate the sustainable electric vehicle (EV) with the stunning Rain Vortex and its surrounding forest setting serving as the perfect backdrop.
Prior to its launch in Singapore, Kia's futuristic EV has already been making waves on the internet, stunning everyone with its stylish and elegant design. It is no wonder that the EV6 has already received multiple awards till date, including the coveted 2022 European Car of The Year award, 2022 Red Dot Design Awards among various others.
The EV6 marks the debut of Kia's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it is also the first all new Kia Battery Electric Vehicle since the brand's rebranding efforts just last year.
The dedicated and modular E-GMP platform offers plenty of advantages to the brand and its consumers. Due to its modular design, the platform can be seamlessly adapted to all sorts of body styles and sizes.
The platform allows Kia to build quality EVs with increased efficiency and optimised packaging - this can be seen from the completely flat floor within the EV6, which doesn't have any transmission tunnel to obstruct the passengers.
Yet another benefit of the E-GMP platform can be seen from the EV6's powertrain - its 800V infrastructure enables ultra-fast charging capabilities, taking just 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with the adequate charger.
The platform also allows performance benefits in terms of greater power, driving range and control.
The Standard EV6 with its single-motor drivetrain puts out 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, propelling it from 0 to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds, while the dual-motor GT-Line produces 321bhp and 605Nm of torque, allowing it to complete the century sprint in just 5.2 seconds.
The EV6's range is equally impressive, with the Standard model boasting a 394km range in a single charge, while the more powerful GT-Line being even more impressive with a maximum range of 506km.
Behind the wheel, the driver gets to enjoy the assistance features that have been packed into it.
The EV6 is equipped with one of the best safety and driver assistance suites currently offered in the market, this includes a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as standard.
Among the plethora of safety features found in the EV6, it includes notable ones such as the Blindspot View monitor, where the driver gets a live view of blind spots in the instrument cluster, and this applies to both the passenger and driver side.
You also get an advanced lane following assist system that help to keep the vehicle within the painted road markings, a safe exit warning system, Front Collision Avoidance Assist & Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist and Kia’s innovative Surround View Monitor.
The cabin of the EV6 is yet another enjoyable and well-designed area of the car, featuring intuitive controls with a large focus on functionality.
A 12.3-inch panoramic curved display offers an immersive driving experience, while the rest of the interior is filled with useable storage spaces and cubbyholes.
In line with the sustainable nature of the car, the cabin is constructed with a variety of environmentally-friendly materials such as vegan leather and recycled plastics.
This model is just the first of many more upcoming EVs from Kia in its switch towards cleaner, greener energy, with seven dedicated EVs in the pipeline. The EV6 is not just an impressive flagship EV, for Kia, it is the symbol of their dedication towards the vision of offering sustainable mobility solutions.
