The new Volkswagen Tiguan debuted off-road on the rough terrain at Sarimbun Camp in Singapore

The new Volkswagen Tiguan, the latest facelift of one of the German brand's most popular SUV, was unveiled at a media event by Volkswagen Singapore.

More than six million units of the Volkswagen Tiguan have been produced till date. This time round, the well-loved and versatile second-generation Tiguan has been given a comprehensive update to offer just what a modern driver needs.

It is now equipped with a new range of connectivity and infotainment systems - the MIB3 systems include natural voice control and easy access to infotainment apps such as Google Maps, Waze and Spotify through the touchscreen, along with wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the R-Line.

In the driver seat, you'll get all vital information via the standard Digital Cockpit with a 10.25-inch high resolution display screen.

Opt for the R-Line and you'll also get Head-up Display, along with an upgrade of the infotainment system from the 8.0-inch Composition Media infotainment system to the 9.2-inch Discover Pro.

Apart from a sportier exterior and interior, the R-Line is also equipped Dynamic Chassis Control, which allows you to adjust the adaptive dampers to suit your preferences.

A truly capable SUV would be able to handle challenging terrains, and the off-roading prowess of the Tiguan was promptly displayed when we put it through the ruts, climbs and descents of Sarimbun Camp.

With a stout new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 187bhp and 320Nm of torque, there sure is enough grunt.

What truly gave the Tiguan its edge on the less than favourable terrain, is its 4Motion all-wheel drive system, equipped with Electronic Differential Lock, Traction Control, and Engine Drag Torque Control.

The effectiveness of this system was proven on the uneven terrain - even with two of the Tiguan's wheels in the air, it was able to monitor the situation and intelligently distribute driving force to the correct wheels and conquered what would have been a sticky situation.

In the looks department, the refreshed Tiguan now sports a new front radiator grille design, bringing it in line with its larger brethren, the Touareg. The wider radiator along with a higher bonnet gives the new Tiguan a significantly more confident appearance.

All versions of the Tiguan are now equipped with LED front and rear light clusters. Re-designed bumpers along with updated badges and letterings complete the Tiguan's exterior makeover.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered in two equipment package options, the Elegance and R-Line, from 8 October 2021 onwards, at $179,900 and $193,900 respectively (inclusive of COE).
