Toyota 86 owners can compare performance data soon

Take note potential Toyota 86 users. Toyota is developing a downloadable telemetry system for your car. The system enables owners to download and compare lap times and driving styles with top Toyota testers at major circuits around the world via Sony PlayStations.
Toyota is currently testing the 86 around the world's major racetracks to map the 86's behaviour. The telemetry system and the upcoming upgrade kit are part of a new model being tested by Toyota, says development chief Tetsuya Tada.
He also admitted while the 86 might be a best seller it does not have a high profit margin as compared to other Toyota models. The missing profits will be made up through the sale of options and upgrades. He also mentioned getting approval for this scheme from board members wasn't easy and was inspired by the unlikely sight of Toyota's senior managers fumbling with PlayStations during a board meeting.
Toyoda sampled the development of the 86 every month as being a racer himself; he wanted the tactile feedback that keen drivers enjoy in the best sports cars. Though we like the novelty of the idea, and as more Androids and iOS devices are gaining more popularity isnt a Toyota 86 app more appropriate?
