Toyota to join North American Charging Standard

Toyota is now jumping in on the North American Charging Standard. Just less than a week after the BMW Group made the switch in North America, Toyota has now announced that it has reached an agreement with Tesla to allow owners of its electric vehicles to charge their vehicles via the Tesla Supercharger network in North America.

The network is said to number 12,000 Superchargers, and Toyota states it will incorporate the NACS ports into certain Toyota and Lexus battery electric vehicles starting from 2025. These vehicles will also include a new, three-row, battery electric SUV set to be produced at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Customers owning or leasing applicable Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System will also be offered access to an adapter to enable NACS charging starting from 2025.

Access to the new charging option comes on top of the 84,000 charging ports in North America (comprising of level 2 and direct current fast chargers) already available to Toyota and Lexus customers in North America through their respective apps.
