Volvo, Honda, Ford, and Hyundai are now being joined by BMW and Rolls-Royce in the list of manufacturers all joining the North American Charging Standard (NACS) in North America.
The move will see owners of BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce electric vehicles in the U.S.A and Canada being able to utilise Tesla's electric vehicle charging network, said to comprise of 12,000 Superchargers, come early 2025.
The firm is already working to ensure that customers have a seamless charging experience - this includes being able to locate available Superchargers on the displays of their respective vehicles, as well as to make payment for the charging session through each respective vehicle's brand app.
BMW Group will also adopt the charging standard for its battery electric vehicles in the U.S.A and Canada, starting in 2025. BMW also plans to join six other automakers to create a joint venture company that will build a new, high-powered electric vehicle charging network comprising of at least 30,000 chargers in metropolitan areas and along major highways in North America. The joint venture is expected to be established this year.
