Volkswagen Golf R arrives in Singapore

Things are heating up at the southern end of Singapore.

Those who head down to VivoCity from today until 23 March 2025 will be able to catch not only the latest Volkswagen models, but also the latest Skoda cars, on top seeing the new models from the newly relaunched Cupra brand.

As you might have figured, this isn't any ordinary roadshow. In fact, Volkswagen Group Singapore states that it is its biggest yet. So, even if you're not too sure just what your next car looks like just yet, there's sure to be something that will fit your needs here.

Noteworthy options at the roadshow include the new ID. Buzz - perfect for the large family intent on living large - while those shopping for an economical crossover will also be pleased to note that the facelifted Skoda Kamiq (now equipped with a Cat A COE-friendly 1.0-litre 114bhp engine) is also present and available to view.

Looking for the latest in electric performance? Cupra's new Born and Tavascan are also available to view at this roadshow.

But those looking for outright petrol-powered performance will want to head over to the newly-launched Volkswagen Golf R. Highlight for this updated performance hatchback is the fact that its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine now pushes out a total of 329bhp (its predecessor offered a total of 315bhp), alongside a peak torque of 420Nm.

This means the performance hatch will crack the century sprint in just 4.6 seconds. But it's not just straight-line speed on offer. Underneath all that sheet metal, the Volkswagen Golf R sports the firm's Dynamic Chassis Control system, said to always provide the highest level of driving comfort while optimising driving dynamics. And this is paired with a precision-tuned sports suspension and a dynamic steering setup for raised handling prowess and driver engagement.

On the outside, you'll be able to spot this Golf R thanks to its forged alloy wheels in Dark Graphite, which come complete with Volkswagen R centre caps, as well as its redesigned front bumper, as well as new taillight clusters.

And its cabin is equally sporty - look out for the car's sports seats, which come complete with integrated head restraints, once you're done playing with its new 12.9-inch infotainment display. And when you're on the go, you'll also welcome the fact that it comes with a leather-wrapped, multi-function sports steering wheel complete with some sizeable paddle shifters.

For those more family oriented, there's also the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline to look at.

Also launching at VivoCity, this new trim level of the recently updated Kodiaq combines seven-seater practicality with stunning good looks, thanks to its numerous glossy black accents and front and rear aprons, as well as added side skirts.

Those who want style and seven-seat practicality  should find the handsome Skoda Kodiaq Sportline pretty difficult to resist

The more practical minded will also be glad to note that the SUV also comes with features including LED Matrix head lights, a 360-degree camera system, and the firm Intelligent Park Assist system on top of an electrically-operated tailgate.

The Skoda Kodiaq is powered by a 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine here in Singapore. Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the SUV will complete the century sprint in 9.9 seconds.
