For the first time, the second row of seats on the Caddy is completely removable, and this brings cargo capacity up to 3030 litres on the standard 5-seater Caddy with the seats removed. The figure is bumped up to 3880 litres for the upsized Caddy Maxi van. Standard equipment now available includes a new Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as well as daytime running lights.
The biggest change to the all new Caddy though, is the addition of six new engines to the range, with four diesels and two petrol units to choose from. All of the engines come with direct fuel injection and are turbocharged for improved performance.
The diesel engines come in four states of tunes, putting out 75bhp, 102bhp, 110bhp or 140bhp. The 102bhp and 140bhp models can be specified with Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch gearbox as an option, while the 110bhp TDI model is available with 4Motion four-wheel-drive. Additionally, the 75bhp and 102bhp models can be equipped with Volkswagen's BlueMotion technology, which throws in a Start/Stop system and an automatic battery regeneration system that recharges the battery using the energy lost during braking.
For the petrol engines, there is a 1.2-litre TSI four-cylinder unit that is available with either 86bhp or 105bhp. Volkswagen will also offer a 2.0-litre EcoFuel CNG natural gas version, carried over from the previous Caddy, and delivers an output of 109bhp.
