The Auto Mobil International (AMI) show will be held in Leipzig, Germany from April 10 to 18, and Volkswagen will showcased the facelifted Volkswagen Touran people carrier, which features the family look already seen on the Golf, Polo and Touareg models.
This means that the Touran gets the familiar new Volkswagen corporate grille, as well as a similar front bumper and headlamp design as the Golf. At the rear there are redesigned LED taillights as well as a new rear spoiler. New alloy wheels, chrome-edged rubbing strips and exterior mirrors complete the look.
The interior of the Touran has also been updated, with new trim finishes with upgraded materials, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a new set of dials with subtle white backlighting and a large electronic display plus a revised centre console with chrome highlights that houses new controls for the ventilation system.
The Touran is still a seven-seater with three rows of seats. The last row can be folded down to provide 695 litres of cargo space, with 1913 litres available when the second row is also folded down. The front headrests have been redesigned to provide the rear passengers with a better view, while there are also 39 storage compartments throughout the cabin of the Touran.
Volkswagen has given the Touran a range of petrol and diesel engines, all of which are turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder units. A new engine added to the range is a 1.2-litre TSI petrol that produces 105bhp, which joins the 1.4-litre TSI engine that is offered in either 140bhp or 170bhp guises.
For the diesels, there is a 1.6-litre TDI with either 90bhp or 105bhp, and a 2.0-litre TDI with either 140bhp or 170bhp. The 1.6-litre TDIs can be specified with BlueMotion technology, which adds an engine Start/Stop function, while all models come with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DSG transmission.
