Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new Tayron, which arrives as the brand's second-largest SUV in Europe. Positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, the car will initially be sold in the entry-level Life trim at launch, with pre-sales to commence in Germany from Thursday onwards (10 October 2024).
Heralded as a classy all-rounder SUV, the Tayron offers spacious seating and storage compartments, up to seven seats, and maximum trailer weights of up to 2,500kg.
Built atop of Volkswagen Group's MQB evo platform, four drive system options for the car will be available for pre-sales, with the entry-level mild hybrid variant offering a power output of 110kW (148bhp). In addition, two eHybrid versions - Volkswagen-speak for the car's plug-in hybrid variants - and a TDI version with an output of 142kW (190bhp), will also be available for order.
On top of the entry-level mild hybrid variant, Volkswagen states that it will eventually offer with two plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid), two turbocharged petrol engines (TSI), and two turbocharged diesel engines (TDI) with high-tech drive systems - meaning that a total of seven drivetrain variants will ultimately be available for the Tayron.
The two eHybrid models, however, have been singled out as the highlights of the range. Combining the perks of both electric and petrol drives, they will delivering a system power of either 150kW and 200kW. Both models can also hit electric ranges of over 100km, thanks to a 19.7kWh battery pack.
Measuring around 4,800mm in length, the Tayron's front LED headlights with automatic main beam control (Light Assist), rear full-length LED crossbar, and the illuminated Volkswagen badges on both ends create a distinctive light signature as night falls.
Sharply drawn lines emphasise the premium feel of the car and its long silhouette. A similar approach is reflected in the interior, with the surfaces, made from materials like microfibres, having a pleasant feel.
The Life version is the Tayron's entry-level package, which offers features like a multi-functional driving experience control, an infotainment system with navigation and wireless capabilities, and 17-inch alloy wheels (18-inch in the U.K.).
In addition, standard assist systems include, among many others, adaptive cruise control (ACC), Side Assist, Lane Assist, Front Assist, Park Assist Plus, and the new exit warning system.
The new Volkswagen Tayron will celebrate its trade fair premiere at the Paris Motor show from 14 October 2024 to 20 October 2024.
