The DS 7 is the first car from the brand to be developed from the ground up by DS itself. Unveiled at this year's motor show and pitched against the typical slew of German rivals, the DS 7 sports generous proportions and a stance that makes it look like it belongs a segment above.
Look closer and you'll quickly realise the car expresses itself as a unique offering design-wise. With a diamond-shaped mesh grille that matches the design of the taillights, LED headlamps that comprise of three squarish blocks that swivel as you unlock the car, and a vivid DS-signature gold coloured paint finish, the DS 7 Crossback looks anything but regular.
On the move, the 1.6-litre turbocharged powerplant does a good job of carrying the brand, with a generous 225bhp and 300Nm of torque being sent to the front wheels of the car via a fuss-free eight-speed automatic gearbox. Active Scan Suspension, which only works in Comfortable drive mode, actively adjusts the suspension and allows it to soak up road bumps accordingly, thanks to a camera and a number of sensors, giving the car a thoroughly plush ride.
The interior of the car likewise continues the luxurious theme, and features Nappa leather upholstery cushioning every surface. The 12-inch infotainment screen, meanwhile, houses a myriad of features such as the air-conditioning controls, massage functions, mood lighting, navigation, a 14-way Electra sound system and reverse camera.
Rear passengers are treated to automatically reclining seats, and will also able to enjoy their own climate control system. With a generous wheelbase of 2,738mm, legroom is generous for all passengers, while the 555-litre boot space adds significant practicality as well.
With quirky looks and a comfort-oriented philosophy that is refreshing against its German peers, the DS 7 pips the post to win the segment.
