While searching , I see all sort of story trying to scare you off and made a good carrot chop chop if I hv not taken a serious thoughts over their sales talk.
" Toxxxxxka " Quoted me abt 1k saying both my compressor and condenser not working, will take abt 4 hrs to fix. Out of curiousity , I asked just In case after changing the both compressor and condenser the Aircon still not up to performance what will be require? Obvious , the changing of the cooling coil , which is the biggest problem which the whole dash board will be require to be dismantle and I was told that another $1.2k require and take another full day job , so the damage will be abt $2.2k and almost 2 days job.
Another Aircon workshop quoted me $1.8 to change the cooling coil that would requires 2 days job, only upon changing the coil then they could confirm the compressor performance to decide further... All in all plus compressor I could end up $ 2400 without replacing the condenser ($400).
After listening to all crazy prices I was very skeptical these workshops are saying , so I decided to just source for all the 3 most important parts to made a comparison judgment what was really the parts cost so to identify workmanship cost , compressor $370 , condenser cum drier $ 250 , cooling coil $350 total part cost :$970
With all these add in , the 2 work shops can be charging me from $1620 to $1820 just on workmanship. I hv been driving for the past 25 years I do not believe that the cost of repair can be that bad.
So with a good free polling day , I drove down to SgEdwin and trying to see whether what will be the next story will be? One of their guys spotted a weak compressor and short of Aircon gas which I hv just topped 2 days ago. So I asked him what could the fault be which I hv already been diagnosed with others but I wanted to hear his comments. Edwin came along after his next job and patiently explained that the most high chances of fault come from the cooling coil and that will lead to a high drawn of current and compression in the compressor ...Mmmmm that's was interesting . I thought that would be another carrot shop trying to rip me off so I told him to quote me, shock from the quote ....He was 40% Lower and only require a few hours to get it done. I was really skeptical why would the other 2 famous workshops requires a full 10hrs to 2 days jobs can be completed within 1afternoon and the price could be that justifiable?
Without much consideration , I wanted to test out this young man skills and ask him to proceed at abt 12.30 pm .
By 7.30pm , I went collect my car and saw the damage cooling coil with a small leak being frosted at one point confirming the leak , after taking the car for a spin the Aircon was still not as cold which I expected . So Edwin and his teams draw out some gas to replace some extra trying to identify anymore other leaks.
Unfortunately, they confirm the compressor was not able to provide enough pressure since its has been almost 7 years old which he did mentioned earlier , so I decide to hv it replace but again Edwin was kind enough to give me some extra discount to made up , still I was happy with the compressor pricing which is still cheaper from the other 2 workshops. The best part was the compressor was change within 20min . Immediately the change , the Aircon was a freezer and that's how a good Aircon should performance.
So , with this I will acknowledge SG EDWIN will be my entrusted Aircon guy going forward.
Well Done, that's the type of repairer Singapore needs.
