Volkswagen has delivered the first electric car to the Greek island of Astypalea, which is currently serving as a test bed for a variety of sustainable technologies.
The first electric car delivered to a private customer on the island was a fitting turquoise-coloured Volkswagen ID.3. Volkswagen also has more deliveries already scheduled for the island’s residents, with models including the ID.4 as well as the Seat MO eScooter all set to be sent.
The end goal for the island includes full conversion to smart and sustainable mobility, with energy provided solely from renewable sources.
In addition to the provision of electric vehicles, Volkswagen is also supporting a recycling initiative that is targeted at the various scrap vehicles that litter the island. The initiative will see Volkswagen supporting the cleanup of these scrap vehicles that compromise the natural beauty of the island by sending them via a ferry to Athens for professional recycling.
