To date, the Porsche World Road Show has been held in over 45 countries around the world. This professional driving event aims to allow Porsche customers to experience its sports cars just as intended, and under the guidance of the expert driving instructors from the brand.
This year, the event returns after a 13-year break to post-pandemic Singapore in a large scale, featuring a comprehensive lineup of 26 Porsche models, ranging from the all electric Taycan to the iconic 911. Additionally, the all new 911 GT3 RS (992) was also launched at the event, bringing excitement to the peak. At the time of writing, the event has been sold out, so if you haven't gotten your hands on a ticket, you will have to wait for the next installment in the future. But, fret not, read on and you'll find out just what this event offers.
Get up close to the Porsche's current lineup
Aside from the 26 Porsche models that travel five continents along with the Porsche driving instructors to deliver the exhilarating driving experience at Porsche World Road Show all over the world, some of the latest Porsche models were also displayed for participants to take a closer look at.
Once you walk into the compound, you'll be greeted with a shiny row of Porsches including the 718 Spyder, 911 Carrera T, Taycan, Macan GTS and the Cayenne. Product specialists from Porsche Singapore are also around to tell you more about the car. Of course, in the limelight was the all new 911 GT3 RS making its debut appearance here.
While you can spend plenty of time admiring the cars displayed, you likely wouldn't want to, as there are even more exciting activities to proceed with - driving!
A holistic driving experience with the guidance of professionals
The driving experience is likely to be the highlight of the event for all participants.
While it is designed to allow participants to gain a better understanding of each Porsche product while having plenty of fun and exciting moments, it also presents an opportunity for you to learn from the professional Porsche driving instructors and sharpen your driving techniques.
The driving experience consists of four segments - an off-road course, a handling course, an acceleration, braking and slalom course, and lastly, a road tour segment.
The off-road course introduces the off-roading abilities of the various Porsche Cayenne variants to the drivers. As the event was held at Changi Exhibition Centre where there weren't any natural off-roading courses, metal ramps were used to simulate off-road conditions.
Through the course, you will drive on ramps that cants the car at what felt like a 45-degree angle, and there are also other obstacles that will get a few wheels in the air.
You can then experience how the car is able to send power to the correct wheels to get it moving. Who knows, maybe the experience will ignite the flame inside you to go off-roading!
The handling course is the most exciting segment of all, and the best part - we got to drive the 718 Cayman GT4 RS! The handling course segment is probably the most exciting of all. A huge part of it boils down to the fact that you will be getting to really push the cars in a tight course demarcated with cones, savouring the handling prowess of the amazing machines.
The other reason to be mind-blown is the selection of cars that you'll get to drive - the Taycan Turbo S, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera GTS, 911 Turbo S, and the star of the fleet, the visceral 718 Cayman GT4 RS! At the handling course, the instructor will drive in a lead car while you follow behind at a safe distance. Through the exercise, you will be able to observe the braking points and lines that the instructor takes.
And as a result, you could learn more about the correct way to drive these cars while getting a feel of their performance.
Next up, prepare to get your mind blown away at the acceleration and braking course. Here, you'll get to launch the 911 Turbo S, accelerate to just over 100km/h (the car completes the century sprint in just 2.7 seconds) and slam hard on the brakes.
We were told that the car can get to a complete stop in only 28 metres! The slalom course is completed with the balanced and agile 718 Boxster GTS, where you can really feel how nimble yet stable the car felt.
And of course, at the end of the day, while Porsche's sports cars are extremely capable track weapons, they are road cars that are meant to be driven on public roads as well. And that is exactly what the road tour segment sets out to achieve.
Once again, there are various Porsche models for you to experience, ranging from the Panamera to the 911. The road tour takes place on Singapore's public roads, akin to a test drive at a car dealership, and it allows you to experience the car exactly as you would on a day-to-day commute. While it might not be the most exciting activity, it sure gives an insight to how living with a Porsche will be like.
An enjoyable day of learning, driving and plenty of fun
Attending the Porsche World Road Show is an educational and fun experience. There is plenty of opportunity to mingle with like-minded participants, the product specialists from Porsche Singapore and the professional driving instructors from Porsche.
As a participant, you'll get up close to some of the most amazing sports cars in the world, and have the opportunity to find out all you want about them from the right people. While this year's event is already sold out, you should keep your eyes open and look out for the next Porsche World Road Show event to experience it yourself. Trust me, you wouldn't regret it.
