Audi has announced that its MIB 3 infotainment system will now get an app store, just months after Merecedes revealed that the next E-Class will come with apps pre-installed.
The new app store comes courtesy of Volkswagen Group software development subsidiary CARIAD, and will offer Audi customers the ability to download third-party apps through the vehicle's Multimedia Interface by means of a data link in the vehicle. These apps can be downloaded without the need for a detour via a smartphone.
Apps already set to be available via the store already include Amazon Music and Spotify, while additional apps across categories including music, gaming, navigation, parking and charging, as well as weather and news will all be offered.
The new app store will be available come June 2023 in selected markets and models equipped with the latest MIB 3 software cluster. These models will be fitted with the app store from the factory throughout the European market as well as Canada and the U.S.A. The functionality will be expanded to additional models later in 2023.
