Singapore looks set to welcome yet another new badge onto its roads, as news has emerged that Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand, IM Motors, will launch its first model onto the market here in 2025.
Headquartered in Shanghai, IM Motors was founded as a joint venture between Chinese automaker, SAIC Motor, and Chinese tech giants, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech and Alibaba Group, back in December 2020. The 'IM' in its name apparently stands for 'Intelligence in Motion', and it counts the likes of Tesla among its direct competitors.
It is understood that the IM Motors will come under the stewardship of Eurokars Group, which is already the official dealer of fellow SAIC-owned brand, MG Motors. The two brands will also be positioned as sister entities, with IM Motors slotting above MG as a more upmarket marque.
In its domestic market of China, IM Motors currently has four fully-electric models on sale. These include the L6 and L7 sedans, as well as the LS7 and LS6 coupe-SUVs.
As the newest model among the quartet, IM Motors' official website indicates that the LS6 rides on a 900V electric architecture, which gives it fast-charging capabilities that can see up to 570km worth of range returned to its battery within just 15 minutes. In China, the LS6 also boasts a CLTC-rated range of 802km, as well as a peak output of 579kW and 800Nm of torque, which can send it from 0-100km/h in just 3.48 seconds.
The impending arrival of IM Motors comes hot on the heels of the announcement by Premium Automobiles that it will be bringing premium Chinese EV brand, DEEPAL, to Singapore. DEEPAL will make its official debut at the 2025 Singapore Motor Show with the S07 - a fully-electric mid-sized SUV. Another new name announced in 2024 that has yet to be launched is Skywell, which has appointed Alpine Automobiles as its official distributor.
