We have slightly clearer details on the freak accident that occurred along Chancery Hill on 1st August that claimed the life of a senior citizen and caused a boy to lose his leg. According to The Straits Times, the Italian lady's husband was reversing the vehicle into their terrace house in Chancery Hill Walk when the elderly woman spotted her grandson cycling into the path of the vehicle.
She yelled at her husband to stop as she ran to pull the boy out of danger - but the grandfather accidently stepped on the accelerator pedal. The error caused the car to crash into his wife and grandson - who were flung five metres into a wall.
The grandmother, died from injuries in Tan Tock Seng Hospital later that day, while the boy's leg was amputated - with the detached leg packed in ice by his neighbour, who is a doctor. The toddler was conveyed to KK Women's and Children's Hospital in a stable condition, but it is unknown if the severed leg has been surgically re-attached.
According to a Chinese daily, the deceased lady and her husband were visiting their son and his family in Singapore. While the family was declined to be interviewed yesterday by The Straits Times, the mother of the toddler acknowledged her son was in a stable condition.
The accident occurred around 6:20pm last Thursday, according to a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman and police investigations are ongoing.
