The new scheme by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to give out grant to promote early morning travel has garnered positive response from companies based near MRT stations.
Dubbed the Travel Smart Network initiative, the authority hopes to ease off morning peak hour travel by helping employers bear the costs of developing flexi-work arrangements.
The programme was launched on Wednesday, and the LTA has approached some companies near MRT stations with more than 200 employees. The Straits Times has reported that companies, such as DBS and Standard Chartered Bank, have shown interest, as the new scheme complements their existing flexi-work policies.
Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo has added that the Government will be very glad to support smaller companies, those with fewer than 200 staff, if they wish to participate in the programme.
Mr Kurt Wee, President of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, responded that with 70 percent of Singapore's workforce employed in SMEs, the impact on public transport congestion will be substantial.
