"With its unique door format and dynamic design, the B-MAX sends a strong message that customers looking for a compact, stylish and versatile vehicle will soon have an exciting new choice," said Stephen Odell, CEO of Ford Europe.
The B-Max is slightly over 4 metres in length, and is 110mm longer and 110mm taller than the Fiesta hatch. Ford says that the B-Max has enough room for five, and if the front passenger seat and rear seats fold down flat, the car can accommodate cargo up to 2.35 metres long. The panoramic glass roof provides an airy feel to the interior, and a six-inch touch panel display showcases vehicle information to the car's occupants.
"With the B-MAX we set out to create a vehicle that captures the spirit of a smaller S-MAX," said Ford Europe executive design director Martin Smith. "We wanted to show that a small car could be very spacious and practical inside, while still having the sleek, dynamic appearance that has made the S-MAX so popular."
The B-Max is powered by a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine with EcoBoost technology, which includes direct fuel injection, twin independent variable cam timing and engine start/stop function. Ford claims that the new engine promises high fuel efficiency and low carbon emissions.
"We believe that the new concepts and technologies [the Ford B-MAX] showcases will have a major impact on the small car market," said Odell.Ford has not outlined when it will put the B-Max into production, but it is expected to be launched in about two years' time.
