Alongside the facelifted Ioniq 6, Hyundai has introduced the all-new Nexo fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), a mid-size SUV, marking a significant milestone in hydrogen mobility.
Aiming for more than 700km of range from a five-minute charge, the second-generation Nexo is based on the INITIUM concept and embodies Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design language. Horizontal groove patterns on its doors emphasises the vehicle's durability, while its 'HTWO' Lamps create a distinctive FCEV-specific design cue.
The new Nexo will be available in six colours: Creamy White Pearl, Phantom Black Pearl, Amazon Gray Metallic, Ocean Indigo Matte, Ecotronic Gray Pearl, and Goyo Copper Pearl.
Inside, the new Nexo offers a spacious environment designed to enhance passenger comfort and convenience. The interior uses rich, soft padding with patterns that evoke the warmth and comfort of a home. A curved, driver-centric display, intuitive controls, and an island-type centre console with impressive storage space are the key features.
Digital side mirror displays are integrated seamlessly as part of the dashboard, maximising openness and practicality. Longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor, the new Nexo offers increased rear cargo capacity, which offers a maximum of 993 litres, and smart storage solutions throughout the cabin that elevate its practicality.
The interior also features first-row Premium Relaxation Seats with leg rests and slim backs that offer improved knee clearance and legroom for second-row passengers. In addition, second-row passengers also benefit from an increased reclining angle, improved headroom, and shoulder room.
Furthermore, the new Nexo SUV boasts significant powertrain advancements, with a new motor system complementing these enhancements. Its total output has been elevated from 135kW (181bhp) to 190kW (255bhp), while its battery output has doubled from 40kW to 80kW. These contribute to its century sprint timing of 7.8 seconds, compared with 9.2 seconds for the previous generation.
Meticulously engineered to achieve top safety ratings, the new Nexo features a multi-skeleton structure and up to nine airbags. It is also equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for collision prevention, with features such as Blind-Spot Viewer Monitor, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, to name a few.
The second-generation Nexo SUV is slated to arrive in global markets later in 2025.
