Since debuting in November 2024, the Hyundai Motor Company's (HMC) Ioniq 9 three-row electric SUV has been hailed as one of the most anticipated electric vehicles (EVs) of 2025. Building on the Ioniq 5 and 6, the new model represents HMC’s commitment to future electrifying journeys as part of its vision to offer 21 EVs by 2030.
But let’s talk about the Ioniq 9's interior. Hyundai describes it as "a home away from home", and it certainly walks the talk. Its lounge-like atmosphere is complimented through elliptical elements and calming tones, while natural light streams through its Panoramic Sunroof. Its flat floor accommodates flexible seating arrangements for six or seven occupants, while Relaxation Seats in the first and second rows offer full recline capability with leg rests, as well as the brand's first Dynamic Body Care system.
In select markets, customers can also improve on this experience with innovative Swivelling Seats in the second row that allow passengers in the second and third row to face each other.
The Ioniq 9 also features a slidable Universal Island 2.0 console that improves it interior accessibility, with walk-through, front-row arrangement and bidirectional armrests that open from both the front and rear. The console can also slide up to 190mm, delivering storage flexibility. In addition, the SUV offers convenient storage solutions, with 5.6 litres in the upper tray, 12.6 litres in the lower sliding tray, and up to 1,323 litres of rear cargo area space with the third-row seats folded. The storage space of the front trunk differs, with RWD models offering 88 litres and AWD models offering 52 litres.
Built on HMC's groundbreaking E-GMP architecture, the Ioniq 9's platform offers exceptional range from its high-capacity battery, a flat floor that maximises interior space for both passengers and luggage, and outstanding safety through its body structure specially engineered for optimal collision protection. Its floor-mounted lithium-ion battery offers 110.3kWh of system energy, with the Long-Range RWD model offering easily accessible power thanks to its 160kW rear motor, while the Long-Range AWD adds a 70kW front motor for extra performance. For maximum output, the Performance AWD models boast powerful 160kW motors on both its front and rear axles.
In terms of century sprint timings, the Performance AWD model achieves it in just 5.2 seconds, the Long-Range AWD variant takes 6.7 seconds, and the Long-Range RWD accomplishes it at 9.4 seconds. In addition, the Long-Range AWD and Performance AWD has a top speed of 200km/h.
Equipped with 19-inch wheels, the Long-Range RWD models achieve an impressive WLTP-estimated range of 620km. Charging is also convenient with the Ioniq 9, with a 350kW charger replenishing its battery from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.
