Shopping for a new car can be fun and daunting at the same time, for while heading to a car showroom is exciting, it can also be nerve-wracking if you haven't been to one in a few years.
As cars grow more advanced, they also come with more features - and more acronyms. It can be overwhelming.
But what if you could view cars in a casual and therefore more relaxed setting? And what if registering for a test drive earned you a free brunch, too?
That's what some customers last Sunday (14 July 2024) had the chance to do at Kia's pop-up roadshow held at Into the Woods Cafe, located in the quiet neighbourhood of Seletar Hills.
The roadshow featured three of Kia's most well-known models: The Niro Hybrid, the EV6, and the EV9. The latter, which debuted at this year's Singapore Motor Show, is the latest electric model from the South Korean manufacturer.
Now in its second generation, the Niro Hybrid has a futuristic yet approachable design. Its interior is more welcoming and advanced than before. But its biggest draw is its fuel efficiency, with Kia claiming it can average up to 25km/L. In real-world tests, we averaged an impressive 19.6km/L.
Drivers who are keen to get on the EV bandwagon had the EV6 to check out. This funky-looking crossover happens to be Kia's maiden attempt at a bespoke EV (it is not available with an internal combustion engine), but you wouldn't be able to tell. That's how resolved and well put-together it is.
The EV6's 2,900mm wheelbase means lots of legroom, while the fastback body style and foldable back seats result in plenty of space for bulky items.
The EV6 is available in two versions: A 58kWh variant with 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, and a range-topping GT-Line with 321bhp and 605Nm of torque. The former, with its 58kWh battery, has a driving range of 394km, whereas the 77kWh battery in the latter gives it up to 506km.
Meanwhile, buyers seeking a seven-seater model had the EV9 to check out. As Kia's flagship EV, this electric SUV has a unique trick: The captain's chairs in the second row can be swivelled around to face the last row. You could have a face-to-face meeting on the go, or even a cosy picnic/get-together at a scenic location.
The Niro Hybrid is available in three versions and prices currently range from $169,999 to $186,999 (both figures include COE).
The EV6, on the other hand, starts from $154,999, while the EV9 is priced from $289,999. Prices for the EV6 and EV9 are not inclusive of COE.
