The KJE was closed to traffic between 6am to 8am today as a result of a serious accident between two private buses. In total eight casualties - all men - were conveyed to the National University Hospital for treatment.
Most of the victims suffered minor scratches and have since been discharged by mid-morning, while two others are still being treated. Of the two, one is believed to have sustained multiple fractures.
Seven workers from Energiser were being ferried to the factory in Tuas in one of the private bus when it crashed into another. The details of the eight injured worker is presently unclear.
According to a police statement, a call requesting assistance on the KJE was made around 5:30am. Three lanes were closed to traffic due to leaking fluids and the road was cleared for traffic from 8am. Yet The Straits Times reported heavy traffic flow even at 9:30am - roughly fours after the accident had occurred.
Earlier today, we reported news of Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mr S. Iswaran calling for more stringent laws and raise awareness of road safety in a bid to reduce accidents on the road. Today's incident on the KJE happened just days after a tragic accident in Tampines.
