The Mercedes-AMG SL is now getting plug-in hybrid technology.
Don't scoff, however. This SL63 S E Performance gets a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 under the bonnet, and a powerful 201bhp electric motor, allowing it to deliver a whopping system total of 805bhp and 1,420Nm of torque.
Paired with a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission and the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system, this power will allow the Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance to see to the century sprint in just 2.9 seconds.
For some comparison, the Mercedes-AMG SL63 offers up 'only' a total of 577bhp and 800Nm of torque (Catch our review of the SL55 here). Remember the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance revealed in December 2022? That comes close, at 791bhp and 1,420Nm of torque.
Powering the electric motor in this Mercedes-AMG SL is a 6.1kWh battery that can be charged at 3.7kWh via an alternating current charger, and allows this plug-in hybrid to deliver a 13km electric-only range.
Look beyond what's under the bonnet, and you'll notice that this plug-in hybrid SL also comes with its model name highlighted in red at the rear. Grooved trapezoidal twin tailpipes also feature at the rear. The car also gets an 'E Performance' badge on its fender, and Mercedes-AMG states that the numerous paints from its Manufaktur programme are also available for the car.
Mercedes-AMG states that the SL63 S E Performance also gets an interior designed to target those that value maximum comfort. Aiding affairs here are electrically adjustable AMG sports seats said to deliver good lateral support and long-distance comfort. AMG performance seats with integrated headrest and ventilation openings are also available, and the car also offers three massage programmes for those that plan on taking this SL for long-distance cruises.
