A global recall affecting 841,000 vehicles has been announced by Nissan due to a steering wheel glitch, reported The Straits Times. A spokesman for Tan Chong Motor, the sole distributor for Nissan cars in Singapore, told the local tabloid it was unclear how many cars were affected by the recall in Singapore. The distributor also revealed it was waiting for more information from Nissan headquarters in Tokyo before deciding its course of action here.
The affected models include the Micra or also known as the March manufactured in Britain and Japan from 2002 to 2006, and the Cube, manufactured in Japan around the same period.
According to an official statement by the Japanese automaker, the problem seems to be the bolt in the steering wheel that may not have been properly tightened and, at worst, the steering wheel not functioning at all.
Nissan will tighten the bolts or replace the steering wheel as part of the recall and the entire repair is expected to take about 40 minutes. Despite the recall, no accidents, deaths or injuries have been reported thus far.
