Renault has reached a new production milestone, having built a total of four million examples of the Kangoo at its Maubeuge plant in France.
The site in northern France has been producing the Kangoo since the late 1990s, and while it has produced more than 20 models since first starting operations in 1969, the location has since become synonymous with the Kangoo. The location is said to manufacture more than 400 examples of the vehicle every day.
The plant continues to be a showcase of Renault’s production expertise even today, being able to produce the Kangoo in a total of 370 different colour tones. It is also said to host a virtual reality paint booth simulator where personnel can practise without even using a drop of paint.
The Maubeuge site also received a $657 million (€450 million) investment in 2021 that included the installation of a high-speed stamping press and 600 metalworking robots. The site's logistics flows were also reshuffled to accommodate the different variations of the Kangoo - it currently assembles more than 380 version of the vehicle on a single production line, handling about 3,700 product references on an average day.
