Skoda launches production of new Superb in Bratislava

Skoda has started production of the new Superb, just four weeks after the car made its global premiere.

The flagship sedan is now being built at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava where the Volkswagen Passat is also built, freeing up space at Skoda's Kvasiny site. The Kvasiny site, in turn, will be used to build additional units of the Skoda Octavia. Skoda states that this move will also allow more battery-electric vehicles to be built at its Mlada Boleslav plant.

Production at the Bratislava plant is being done in what was previously a vacant hall which has seen the installation of over 500 state-of-the-art robots, alongside new control systems and bonding equipment. Skoda states that the production line at this hall has also seen various upgrades including the installation of automation equipment and handling technologies as well as industrial camera systems. The chassis production area of the line was also extended to incorporate battery packs for electric vehicles.

Skoda states that over 1.6 million units of the Superb have been produced to date.
